Old Adobe Home

Old Adobe Home
505 North Third Street

This historic structure is purported to be one of only three original adobe homes remaining in north Alpine. Tax records show that the land on which the house was built was first owned by Thomas Murphy, one of Alpine’s founders. Those records also show that in 1915, taxes on the property increased dramatically, which indicates major improvements and construction of a building. Whether Murphy or someone else built this adobe home is not known. Title searches do not reveal the original occupants.

Many different renters and owners have lived in this old home over the years. The most recent owners are Hank Mast and Dayna Yarborough who bought the property in 2005 and have renovated and restored the old home. An interesting viewing window in the kitchen gives one a look at the original adobe walls.
